My Bad Beat
By: Tony Kurt
I am sure you have heard every bad beat story there is out there, except mine. A bad beat in mobile poker can be very frustrating. A bad beat is when you have a good hand and that hand is beat out by an even better hand. These occasions are rare but can happen and when they do it is very memorable for the player with the lower hand. I don’t like to brag about my winnings, but I do speak often about my failures. I like to get others opinions and learn from my mistakes. With mobile poker and poker in general it is important to understand when to fold and when to continue fighting, even if the cards are in your favor.
It was an average Friday night at a local casino which I frequent often. I was dealt the possibilities for a straight flush. An 8 of clubs and the 8 of spades straight from the dealer, which is a very good sign. The player sitting to my right obviously had an amazing hand as well, or was bluffing. I was oblivious to him raising after every round, I was too excited about the 6 and seven of hearts which we turned over during the flop. The turn revealed another 8 and I had three of a kind. Before the river I decided to go all in. Little did I know that the player sitting to my right was holding a straight flush. It was the most intense bad beat I had ever suffered! Since that night, I have become a more passive player and learned the true meaning of. “Know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold ‘em”.
