Online Poker Rules
Like any type of games, poker too has some rules to follow which is required for the game to continue and end in a fold where a winner collects all his/her chips or amount. The poker rules are nothing but the method of playing poker. There are pokers played offline, online pokers, mobile pokers, etc. They have certain rules according to the type of the poker.
While playing online poker, first by clicking, a table in the lobby is selected and then the table window is opened. This can be done in two ways:
- The selected table is double clicked, or
- The ‘Go to this table’ option button in the lobby is clicked.
When the table window opens, to sit down one can just click on any available seat. Then a character appears on the seat. Then the bet amount is entered to open the round and then the ‘OK’ button is clicked. The ‘SIT IN’ button is selected when anyone wants to get into the round.
The dealer has to be selected before starting the table. A random open card is issued to each player. One who has the highest value is selected as the dealer.
The private and the unrestricted are the two types of private tables available. A player creates the unrestricted table. The working of this table is similar to that of a regular table. In case of private tables, the owners accept players.
In the lobby, a private table can be easily identified. It will have a red padlock icon next to it. When a person opens a private table, he/she will be asked to send a request to enter the table. He/she can also choose the option of typing a small message in the input field. This request is, received by the table owner and he/she if accepted, is eligible to sit down at the table.
As far as the creating of a private table is concerned, a tab saying ‘Private Tables’ is selected in the lobby. Then, a green button, which says, ‘Create Private Table’ is clicked. There is also available a list of table types that are offered from which one can select the table type along with the maximum number of players, the table restrictions, and the game speed.
The three types of game speed available are the normal, adaptive and turbo. The normal is the same standard table types. Adaptive requires less time to think and will also adapts a to how the players played in the previous games. The turbo gives very less time to think and it is suitable for those who are interested in fast games. After choosing all the necessary settings, the ‘create’ button is operated. It may take minimum of a minute to be shown in the lobby.
If a person wants to sit in the table that is created by another person, he/she will have to take permission to sit there from the creator of the table. The creator can choose to either accept of deny.
There are different games available namely the Texas Hold’em, Omaha, Omaha Hi/Lo, Seven card stud, seven card stud hi/lo, card draw, etc. In case of Texas Hold’em, 2 pocket cards are issued to players. The game has a total of 5 community cards, which will face up, then first three, which is followed by one after the other. A round of betting involves between each deal. Also involved are the two blinds, which are the bets made before receiving the pocket cards. The first two players, seated after the dealer, where the first player posts small blind, play these blinds and the second one posts big blind. But in case of heads-up games, the player who is seated after the dealer posts this big blind. The first two rounds of betting consider lower limit and the last two rounds utilizes higher limit.
Omaha, also a poker game comes from the Texas Hold’em. Here four cards are issued to each player. These cards will be hole cards or hidden cards. Also, on the board, five community cards are displayed. Three of the five community cards are used with the two cards, which are hidden cards and make five cards totally to make a poker hand.
In Omaha Hi/Lo game the player having high value card among the best five cards in the round wins half a pot and the player having a best hand with lower valued card receives the other half of the pot. Here, four cards are issued to players among which only two cards which are hidden are used along with three cards from the board. Sometimes a stage may be reached where in case of identical hands, the pot will be equally divided between the players having best hands, as high and low shares. In some events, if there is no low hand, then the high hand wins the pot.
If a hand is to be eligible for low, then the cards he/she has must be less than 8 also no pairs should be there. But Aces can be used as either high or low but sometimes a combination of both. A winner having the lowest high card, for example, 3,4,5,6,7 then it can be said to be better than Ace, 2, 3, 4,8. In Ace, the low hand that is best possible is Ace, 2,3,4,5.
A seven card stud will have players issued of seven cards each and the one who has the best five card hand will be the winner. All the players of the seven card stud, will bet for a nominal amount. Each player is issued with 2 hole cards and a single open card. The player who has the least exposed card will be forced to bet for at least half a small bet or full small bet is also a chance. This continues in clockwise direction until the betting is completed in that round.
In a 5 card draw game, the players are given five hidden cards and they are allowed to change one or more cards by drawing the cards. Betting is done even in the second round and then the game comes to showdown where player having the high hand is declared to be the winner. Here the first two players seated left to the dealer posts two blinds.
Among the betting structures available, limit is the valid bet or raise in the poker game. Maximum four bet or raise namely bet, raise, re-raise and a cap are present in a betting round. No limit comes into picture where a valid bet or raise must be more or higher than the current limit and even the previous bet or raise. No higher limit or maximum number of raises exists. This is also same as the pot limit. Even here no maximum higher bet exists.
