My First Game of Real Poker

So I finally decided to play real poker about 2 weeks ago. I had been going over the rules for a few days and felt I was finally ready to put some of my money to use.

The first hand I was dealt came up as Ace King. I thought, "hmmmmmm this is a pretty good hand" so I called. It ended up the "flop" came ace spade, ace diamond, and king heart - now keep in mind... This is my first hand ever on a real poker table with money.

By this time I was having a hard time keeping in my joy. I quickly raised which was probably a bad move looking back on. But regardless of the quick raise, I was able to have somebody call me. He must have had some type of ace or king in his hand but he was no match for my AK.

Fourth street came 7 hearts and the whole board thus far was hearts. This led me to believe that he was holding an ace of hearts looking to take the table with a flush. Little did he know my aces full of kings was going to sweep the pot.

I raised 3 times the pot which was now at $20 and he quickly rereaised me with $100. I called. The pot was now $180. This was getting pretty expensive and I was really hoping he could not some how beat me with something.

What could he have? I thought about all the possibilities and it seemed impossible for him to beat me with anything. At most he could tie with AK.

Fifth street came 2 hearts. I thought, hmmm, perhaps he was on a flush draw and finally caught it. But why would he be drawing to it for so long with terrible odds?

I simply checked him to try suckering him into a check raise. He thought about it for a while and then with a big grin on his face pushed all his chips in. The pot was now $1,320. This was crazy and I didn't know what to think.

What was he doing? Was he trying to scare me? Just the money alone made me hesitant to call. It was so much money and I was almost in really deep at this point.

I finally worked up the courage to call. The pot was $2,460. He turned over his cards. Ace of hearts and Queen of Hearts. Hah, just as I expected. I turned over my cards, took the $2,460 and went home. I was done for the night and had no problem calling it a night. I won a huge pot!
