Mobile gaming has also experienced quite a leap in technology from the origins of the apple-eating worm to the present offering of anything from classic Tetris and PacMan to poker, trivia and even EA sports games! I�ll admit that a tiny piece of my heart misses that danged old worm (or perhaps he and I just knew each other better, before my life hit turbo speed and warped into the future) but I�m fascinated by the fact that I can download almost any game I can think of, for a mere one-time minimal charge. Maybe it�s the charge that gets me�the worm, as in all good (bad?) bottles of tequila, came free. But I�m still an enthusiastic supporter of these trivialities, especially when I find myself stuck waiting for a connection in Chicago, long after I�ve read the last page of my latest mystery novel. Do you remember 5 years ago when your cell phone would ring from across the room, those fun little tinny rings, and you wouldn�t know whether to run for it or not, because on one hand, it might be your boss, needing help on a high-end project RIGHT NOW, but on the other hand, it might be your boss, needing help on a high-end project� Thanks to technology turning personal, I can now know whether to run for calls from my fianc� or turn my attention elsewhere when the ring identifies someone determined to derail my day off. Not only can I use those darling little tinny sounds (reserved for a small subset of my contacts for whom they seems appropriate), I can also download (again, for a minimal one-time fee) the latest in music hits, theme songs from my favorite movies, or even famous voices. And just in case that audible cue doesn�t immediately identify my caller, I�ve become quite obsessed with downloaded wallpaper that I somehow identify with my buddies � the Air Force Academy emblem for my AFA grad friends, Garfield for my mom who always forgets my cat�s name and reverts to an old standby, or the classic Philadelphia Phillies mascot for my Phavorite Phillies Phans back home. In just over the length of time of the last 3 American presidencies, technology has exploded from providing cellular service for emergencies and must-deliver messages to personalized, on-the-go fun technology that I can�t imagine living without. Just as the internet revolution has made the world smaller, cell phone technology has made the world closer. Whether this is your first mobile device, or you�re an old pro, pick up your phone today and learn something new about it � I�ll bet that no matter how proficient you are with whatever device you carry, you�ll be able to find a new function, a new game or a must-have ringer to your repertoire. As for me, I�m off to make friends with my mobile email�I�m sure I have a friend somewhere in the world that hasn�t heard from me in at least the past 3 days.
