Poker became increasingly popular in the Renaissance era.

In 1829 an English reporter stated that he observed gamblers playing a similar game, involving only 20 cards. Draw poker and split-poker are just a few of the developments in poker, which came from this era. The American military is also responsible for the spread of poker to eastern countries such as Asia. This happened during war times and the game stuck and is very popular in these regions.
